I saw it clearly in 1991 and right now MLMs are exploding. I get calls and emails from friends coming out of the woodwork with opportunities. I get 4 times the calls that I got last year. People feel backed into a corner, so they are willing to try something new and MLMs usually have low startup and operating expenses with unlimited up potential. I've never even thought about your second point, that MLMs thrive in a good economy. If we ever have a good economy again, I'll be more observant. Ever notice how so many MLM "leaders" have a trail of MLM companies in their background? The untold story is they also leave a wake of human wreckage as well. Funny, they never seem to have any problems sleeping at night. There must be something in the human psyche that allows purportedly "religious" people from feeling any sense of guilt or remorse when they have pocketed the earnings of people who chose to believe in them - and laugh all the way to the bank.
